  On 17th March, 2014, His Excellency Shuichiro Nishioka, the Ambassador of Japan to Malawi signed Exchange of Notes with Hon. Maxwell Mkwezalamba, the Minister of Finance in the Republic of Malawi. The Notes are for the Project for Reconstruction and Expansion of Selected Community Day Secondary Schools and Conventional Secondary Schools (Phase III) and the Project for Extension of Tedzani Electricity Hydropower Station (Detailed Design).

 

    The Government of Japan approved a grant amounting to JPY1.756 billion (equivalent to US$17.6 million) for the implementation of the Project for the Reconstruction and Expansion of Selected Community Day Secondary Schools and Conventional Secondary Schools phase III. This grant will facilitate the construction of classroom blocks, laboratories, administration block, libraries, multipurpose halls and teachers’ houses in 11 selected schools across the country.
 

 Secondly, the Government of Japan approved another grant amounting to JPY101 million (equivalent to US$1.01 million) for the project for Extension of Tedzani Electricity Hydropower Station (Detailed Design). This grant will facilitate a detailed work design for the addition of a 21.8 megawatt hydropower station at Tedzani in order to build the capacity of Malawi to meet the future energy demand for its economic development.
